County Rugby Finals

On the 5th of April, our Years 7 and 8 Boys rugby teams represented the Nottingham City schools at the County Finals rugby tournament.

The competition was held at Nottingham Rugby Club and each team played 7 games against the best players in the county. Our teams were outstanding, giving their all and conducting themselves excellently. They played their games hard but fair and demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship and teamwork.

Years 7 and 8 Boys

The teams faced significant challenges, having not played 10-a-side before; scrummaging was new to them and tactical kicking was also allowed. Both teams took this in their stride and produced some outstanding performances.

Year 7

Whilst no overall winner was announced, Year 7 played 7 games, won 5, drew 1 and lost 1. They faced tough opposition in their two opening games and produced determined defensive performances to gain vital wins.

Their only loss was by only one try to a well-coached West Bridgford team whose players clearly benefited from playing at local clubs at the weekend. Their drawn match exemplified the team spirit, coming back from two tries down to level the game with the last play of the match.

Year 8

It took the Year 8 team a little longer to settle, particularly because they had not had a chance to practise scrummaging. Although they lost their opening two games against two good teams, as they grew into the tournament so their play improved and they were able to beat the strong West Bridgford School.

Local Rugby Teams

The talent on show was simply brilliant and many students have been approached to play for local rugby teams. We hope that next season many of them will be playing for those local clubs at the weekend.

Well done boys!
