Exams - External
The majority of external examinations at GCSE and GCE levels take place between May and June, however, some BTEC exams also take place in January.
The school is an approved examination centre for the following boards:
All matters relating to external examinations must be referred in the first instance to the school's Examinations Officer, who liaises between the examination boards and the school and is responsible to the Headteacher for everything appertaining to such examinations.
Subject leaders/managers should also be aware of any recommendations made by the JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) which relate to their subject. They must also have a detailed knowledge and understanding of the examination specifications and read and implement recommendations made in the Chief Examiner's Report and at examination boards INSETS.
The Examinations Officer will at appropriate times ask staff to check names, dates of birth and entry details with pupils. It is most important that these checks are carried out as thoroughly as possible.
Unless the examination requires specialist accommodation, external examinations will normally take place in the main school Sportshall and Gym.
Staff will not routinely carry out invigilation. However a subject teacher should be available at the start of the examination to assist with identification of candidates. The subject teacher should not remain in the examination room and should leave before the examination starts. Under no circumstances should an examination paper may be removed from the examination room. Any spare examination papers will be distributed to Heads of Departments 24 hours after the end of the examination.
Staff may be asked to assist in the running of examinations in the following situations:
- Where the exam administration requires the particular competencies of subject teachers, such as modern foreign language speaking test.
- Where timetables of individual candidates have been altered because of clashes and such candidates require supervision between papers.
