English Literature from the Battlefields
Two Year 8 pupils and one teacher visited the First World War battlefields of the Western Front on a special English Literature focused tour.
Highlights of the tour included visits to battlefield sites, memorials, museums and cemeteries, including the graves of the renowned war poets Francis Ledwidge and Hedd Wyn.
A Special Connection
There is a strong connection between poetry, remembrance and the First World War and the trip was a very special opportunity for pupils to read and recite poems in the settings which gave rise to that poetry.
Poetry by Heart
The chance to go on the trip came from entering the national 'Poetry by Heart' competition. Trinity pupils joined children from other schools in the North and the Midlands, along with serving army personnel for the tour.
