Year 10 Airplane Project
In May, two Year 10 DT: Resistant Materials groups completed a mini-project to make a Spitfire or single-engine model aircraft.
The pupils used a range of materials, tools and processes to make the plane. As usual, Spitfires were very popular but some other interesting planes were made, such as a Boulton Paul Defiant night fighter and a Grob RAF trainer plane.
All the pupils really enjoyed the project and learnt about wood joints, screw thread cutting, adhesives and basic finishing, amongst other techniques.
What a fitting way to remember the heroes from ‘The Battle of Britain’ from World War 2.
